FNSI Results

If you are here from the Blog Hop Party my giveaway is Here.

So this was my first participation in FNSI - Friday Night Sew In.  How fun to set aside time just for sewing! :D  I think I got a lot accomplished - and I even took pictures to share! :D

This adorable little penguin is me venturing out of my box and trying to get better at applique.  My lovely bloggy friend Carolyn designed a set of blocks, and asked if anyone wanted to play along. I jumped at the chance, knowing my applique skills leave something to be desired.  Besides, who doesn't love birds???
He is all fused and ready for me to stitch him together.
Then I worked on my block swap adventure block for the month.  My partner this month likes civil war fabrics and churn dash block, and I think this fits the bill! I had to go to a fabric store to purchase civil war fabric, as I don't generally have any in my stash, but now I have some for next time! :D

Finally I worked on my buck a block quilt from 2011.  I have 6 blocks yet to finish, 3 matching sets, so hopefully today I can finish those.  Then I get the fun part - arranging the blocks and putting sashing and borders. (Note my sarcasm :D ).

HSTs waiting to be made into a block!
All in all FNSI was successful for me.  Thanks to my hubs for letting me get some uninterrupted sewing done!

What was once an orphan block

Is now a table topper!  A lovely flickr friend donated the orphan block - the middle of the table topper.
I then added borders - I love that the block matched the fabric I had on hand and waiting to be used!

After borders, I was stuck a couple days at a loss of what to do for quilting.  I then decided to all over meander/free motion stitch on it.  I like how it turned out.

Here is a close up of the binding:

Not only am I loving this table topper, but I'm loving that it is warm and sunny outside! :D

Buying Pretties

I needed some new thread, so I went shopping online the other day. I buy most of my thread from Connecting Threads, and they had a HUGE sale on solids - so I had the perfect excuse to buy some fabric goodness.  Here is my haul of fabrics and thread from their store:
