Snow Bag Finished

My SIL requested a bag to put all her snow accessories in - beanies, scarves, gloves, etc. She wanted a bag that was big enough to hold everything, cute enough to display on her coat rack, and one handled for easy access. We went to a local quilt store, and shopped around until we found some fabric she liked that matched her living room decor. Then we found the perfect bag pattern, complete with a pleated handle! (My first pleated handle) I whipped this bag up for her birthday, along with some fiestaware bowls she needed for her dish set.

Here it is:

Isn't it nice and spacious?

Inside - it was filled with other gifts she got for her birthday.

Was hard to get a picture of the pleats. The flash interfered, but you can sort of make them out!

Here it is, hanging up in it's new home!

Asian Fan Quilt Finished!!!

This king sized beauty is finally finished! I am so thrilled!!

Here it is in all it's glory:

This baby is going to go on my bed (if I can be convinced we should use it!) This quilt has been almost 2 years in the making! (I think). This was one of the very first quilt patterns that I picked out, and started working on. This quilt started out being a lap size quilt, and my husband helped me figure out the measurements to make this a king size. Then, we added borders, and this beauty is now bigger than king size. What was I thinking?

It was longarmed by the lovely Cotton Pig aka Frecklemama. This is the first quilt I've sent out, and I think she did a lovely job. It was a great price, and the dragon design is amazing!

Another Flower

Another hexagon flower. They are addicting. I whipped this one up catching up on Big Bang Theory with Kurt. I can see I might have to invest in a die to cut the hexagon shapes so I can make different sizes of these babies!

Teal and brown Quilt

Wow! I have a finished quilt! This one was a long time coming - my MIL and I got the kit months ago, and I modified the pattern. She wanted a quilt/throw that would be decoration on the couch - so skinnier than a normal quilt. I took the quilt pattern and halved it, making the quilt identical on both sides. This reversible quilt whipped up super fast, but I had trouble quilting it. I had it halfway done and had to pull out stitches - my stippling was leaving something to be desired. Last weekend I decided to buck up and finish this baby!
Here it is :

This quilt finished at about 30 by 54. It's currently on the couch now, and it makes a great addition to the room - if I say so myself ;)

Finish a Long with me!

I've decided to participate in the FAL (Finish A Long) at Quilter in the Gap.

I took pictures of my UFOs I would like to complete. I'm sad that I have to many pretties in various forms waiting for me to finish them. Maybe I have a little quilter ADD.
Here are my UFOs:

1. Star Quilt. This is my Bee quilt from Let's Bee Together. I still need to finish it with more borders, and then the top will be finished.

2. Super nova quilt from Freshly Pieced QAL. Need to finish the blocks and sew the top together. Poor beautiful quilt, sitting in a bucket!

3. Red and White quilt. This is my first ever quilt! And it's been sitting folded as a top for a long time. Need to get up and get this poor baby quilted - have the back pieced and ready to go too!

4. Asian Fan Quilt. This is all quilted. Just needs to be trimmed and bound. There is one fan, in the bottom left hand corner, that needs to be "repaired". The applique stitch is coming off. Since it needs to be repaired, and I am a chicken, it has been sitting since it came back from the long armer. Seeing it almost ready is breaking my heart - this quilt is going to go on our bed once it's done. Maybe now I will have the motivation to repair the applique and finish this one.

5. My brown and colored quilt. This has two rows pieced, and the rest is sitting in a bucket cut up. If not for it being cut and started, I would scrap it. It's an original design, and for some reason I have no faith in my ability to have designed this quilt top :S Now that I'm showing the world, I am determined to finish it, even if it doesn't turn out how I envisioned it when I drew it up.

6. Wonky square Christmas quilt. I have the backing and binding for this one ready. Just need to decide how I want to quilt it, and get it all put together.

Phew. Now I feel like I am airing my dirty laundry. Let's hope I can get some of these finished, if not all of them, so I can show you all that yes, I can clean that dirty laundry!!! :D

Resolutions

1. Finish my Asian fan quilt for our bed. - Need to trim and bind!
2. Finish my Bee star quilt - bought border fabric just need to cut and sew and the top is done.
3. Lose weight - going to see a nutritionist this week. *crosses fingers*
4. Spend more quality time with family.
5. Spend more time blogging - I need to take pictures and post and show the world my creations! I love reading other peoples blogs!
6. Start the top from 2010/2011 BOM quilt. - All blocks are pieced.
7. Sew the blocks and catch up on my 2011/2012 BOM quilt. - No blocks are pieced.

I was going to make 10 resolutions - but decided to stop at 7. I think this is a reasonable list and all the goals are achievable this year. Some are quilty, and some are personal. I hope you will all stay with me this year and enjoy sharing my journeys with me. I enjoy each and every one of your comments and thank you for taking the time to read my words. <3

Happy New Year! I've been thinking about my resolutions this year - and have started a small list. My goal for this week: to make my resolution list and post it. I'm hoping that if I post it, it will help keep me on task! It will be both quilty and non quilty resolutions.

I hope that you all had safe and festive celebrations to ring in the new year. We are having family stay with us and are having fun with them here. Off to enjoy more quality family time. <3

Snowman Mini Quilt

For our January meeting of Green Bay Modern Quilt Guild, we will be working on making these snowman mini quilts! Last months meeting we learned how to make hexagon flowers, so the task this month was to make a white, or color of their choice, hexagon flower during the month. I emailed out a supply list so we can create these!

Isn't he a cutie? He is my second ever hexagon flower that I've made. So happy we had someone demo this for us, as I've wanted to learn it for quite a while.

We will be just making the snowman and practicing applique this month at the meeting. They will be able to add any embellishments they see fit during the month at home. In February, we will have a drawing for those that complete their snowman mini quilt, and they will get fabric and other goodies. It's a surprise!!

For the mini quilt I made a "faux binding", just made the backing 2 inches bigger all around and folded over the edges. Here is a close up of the corner, I think it turned out well!

Busy busy

It was my birthday this past Saturday, so I've been busy with birthday celebrations. Friday we had a family dinner and it was fun! Saturday I got a date out with the hubby, which always makes for a nice time. Sunday night we had another family dinner :D

I've been browsing new blogs for Sew Mama Sews giveaway day. Also been baking up a storm! After this week I will be less busy, so I can post some pretty fabrics and pictures. <3

Quilted Name Tag

For our quilt guild meeting this coming Thursday, we are having a quilted name tag challenge. Here is what I whipped up tonight, using this tutorial loosely, for my name tag. This was my first time attempting machine sewn binding, I am a hand sew kinda girl, and I'm not sure I liked it. I feel like you can see all my little oopsies! But in spite of that....I LOVE IT!

Isn't a cutie? It's about 3.5 inches...now just to figure how to make it a name tag so I can wear it. Any ideas??

Catching up on blocks

Spray Basting Vs Pins

Which is your preference? I use both, depending on the size of the quilt. I love the ease of spray basting, but hate that it can get other places sticky - which creates a need to mop the floors more often!! I hate trying to spray a large quilt tho, as I feel I can't get it quite accurate. Pinning is the way to go then for me. So how do you baste your quilts? The same? Opposite? Only one method or the other? I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions!

I'd show you what I just basted, but it's a Christmas surprise!!!

How I'm Feeling...

This isn't a quilty post, just a quick update on how I'm feeling. Which is good. The surgery was successful, I am healing up nicely, and I am going back to work on Monday. I was even able to catch up on sewing some of my blocks, so later this week I will post pictures of what I've done. I apologize again to those who I was late to, but thankfully everyone was understanding. More and more I love the quilty and bloggy and flickr friends that I have met! They are all great, and supportive, and understanding.

I've been a bad swapper...and an update

It's true, I've been a bad swapper. I am a month behind on my bee blocks! I apologized to my hostess, and am trying to get caught up. For some reason, in addition to not finding time, the block is stumping me. It's a bunch of HSTs, but I feel like I can't get them perfect. It is halfway sewn now, so hopefully this weekend I can work on it, depending on how I feel.

I just had gall bladder surgery this past Thursday. Thank you to my friends and family members who have been keeping me in your thoughts and prayers. My recovery, so far, is going well. The pain medication is definetly helping, and so is a lot of rest and sleep. Unfortunately, my sleeping schedule is off so I am now awake at 2:30am blogging this.

I now understand how easy it is to get behind on your swapping. One month behind and it seems to pile up, and the guilt piles up. Boy do I ever feel guilty! Has this happened to any of you, my dear readers? I hope to get caught up and not get behind again. What a terrible terrible feeling.

I am so nervous! Tonight is our first meeting of the GBMQG - Green Bay Modern Quilt Guild!

I have a survey to hand out to everyone, and am planning on tonight being more of a meet and greet. I'm even baking cookies! Lots and lots of chocolate chip cookies. (And maybe one or two will make it in my belly :D )

I am hoping we get the turn out I am expecting...but it's still nerve wracking. I have this irrational fear that people will not like me, and therefore the guild will fail. Terrible, I know.

Enough ranting. Let's celebrate! Monday I start my new job! That means less sewing time, but more money in. So...maybe a bigger fabric stash??? ;)

I have this project that I've been working on, it's a semi surprise for a Christmas present!

I also have this that I've done a little work on. I'm not sure I'm in love with it, how I planned sewing it, so it's sitting here staring at me for not working on it!!!

The other WIP I have is a potential job! I go tomorrow for another interview, but from the sound of it I'll be starting September 12th! Go me! :D

I can't believe it! How time flies! It seems the summer barely started, and now we are almost coming to a close! I haven't got as much sewing, that I can show you, done as I want to. But I do have some exciting things coming up in September! The first meeting of the Green Bay Modern Quilt Guild will be September 8th! I am so excited and nervous for this to happen! UFO Club

I joined a UFO club at one of my local quilt shops - we meet once a month for 3 hours and work on any projects we want! Yesterday I cut out and sewed a cardinal table runner - that I bought 2 Christmases ago. This poor neglected table runner top is now finished, and is waiting for my to bind and quilt it. I will post pictures soon, I have newfound motivation to get this table runner finished! :D

UFO Finish

Phew! This poor UFO has taken a while to finish. It was first supposed to be a Christmas gift for my husband. Then it was supposed to be a birthday gift for him in January. He finally got it this fathers day...thank goodness I finally finished it. I love it, now that it is finished. Love the fabrics, love the design, love the quilting. It is one of my favorites that I've done. Even better, Kurt loves it!

Purple Purse

I whipped up another purse for my MIL this weekend - this one was purple, and had tons of pockets! The pattern was called super mini plenty of pockets tote. I really like how the front turned out with the buttons. This purse has 4 pockets on each lining side, so 8 pockets inside, and 2 outside for 10 total! I hope that's enough pockets for her! :D

Mickey Cake

My son turned 2! Wow how time flies! We had a birthday party for him yesterday, and it was Mickey Mouse themed - he loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse show. So in honor of his birthday I made a Mickey cake!

I've also been sewing - will have pictures of a completed quilt when the sun is shining - hopefully by tomorrow! Today is all rainy.

This is for the newly redecorated living room . MIL wanted teals and browns - so got some fabric and whipped this beauty up! I love how it turned out. I stippled in the middle, and just did a straight stitch once around the brown border. And now for pictures:

An Oops and a Thank you

First the thank you! To my dear friend - Carolyn the veggie hunter. I sent her a package of buttons and other goodies and she sent me lovely fabric and beads and other goodies! Such fun!

Next, my oops! I am doing the quilt along at freshly pieced...and I messed up my first block. Since I had aleady cut off my extra fabric, it stayed an oops, and will be the middle block. I guess this means my quilt will be unique...it also means I've been putting off my other blocks so I am way behind! Here's to today and trying to catch up!!!

Catching up on BOM

So...I've been behind on my BOM blocks for my local quilt shop quilt along. I was almost 5 months behind! When I picked up the fabric and instructions for this month, I vowed to catch myself up! How embarassing! Two more months and we are supposed to be finishing! So I worked my little butt the last couple days on these, and got myself caught up! I still have to do this month, but I'm at least on the right month now! ;)

WIP Wednesday

Today's WIP Wednesday finds me working on a pattern for a book like diaper clutch, that I plan to sell in my Etsy shop with my sister. (Poor etsy shop is sparce with listings atm!) I have made two diaper clutches so far, and I think it's almost perfect now. But, luckily, I can use my "testers", so I don't feel I'm wasting any fabric! :D If anyone else would like a highly discounted "tester", email me! I will tell you what flaws, if major or minor (one just has a longer velcro strap, but I'm not happy with it being longer, so it's imperfect. Yes, maybe I am a perfectionist....) Now for some pictures! :D

I am also working on a quilt for my friend Becca - a pink and black wonky cross quilt. One row sewn so far! If you look, you can see the skull fabric. She is very punk rock, so I needed to make a hip, truly one of a kind quilt for her. I'm excited for this, because she has loved the peaks so far!!

First Bee Block

I'm so excited! I got this lovely block today from Linda of Stray Stitches. I love it! I asked my fellow bee members for stars, or wonky stars. I am so excited to see the rest of their takes on my fabric.

Linda also included a nice postcard and note. Thank you so much Linda! This is up on my design wall, and I smile when I pass it and see it!!

Rose Quilt

Even though I felt like I was making a barbie quilt , this floral rose quilt is turning out really nicely! It is half done, and I am liking it. The person who will receive this is a HUGE rose fan - so it's perfect for her! Now to finish the other half. (If you look closely, you can see the tiny 1 inch squares).

Scripture Cover

I made my stepdaughter a scripture case this weekend, and I think it turned out super cute! I loosely followed THIS tutorial, and it was easy to follow the directions. Now to sew one for my husband and myself before next Sunday :D

Phew - it's been a long time since I've posted. Darn sickness!!

First: A purse for me. I love it!! This was a really quick finish - quicker than expected!

Design Wall Monday

This quilt will be for my Aunt Marie (I don't think she reads this. And technically she is my Aunt in law but that just sounds silly)

I like working with the triangles! It's my first "triangle" quilt, with a new triangle ruler. So I have two rows done, and now to make more and see how I like it arranged :D

Baby Quilt Finish

My Lovely sister Melissa is pregnant, and due Feb 16th - so I knew I had to make a little quilt. Finally - a girl! Here is a picture of it started :

And here it is all finished - I used a prepackaged satin type binding, so its soft and silky for her. I hope she loves it.

The back is flannel print :

I am sad to see this little one go. I did easy quilting - just diagonally across the quilt. <3 This quilt makes me happy. Do you have quilts that do that for you?

Kirstikoo Diaperdoo Pattern Review and GIVEAWAY closed

Kirsti over at Kirstikoo handmade Gifts graciously sent me a free diaperdoo clutch pattern, after I had expressed interest in it. She was very nice in all her emails, and very prompt!! She got this pattern to me, I printed it, and decided to follow the instructions EXACTLY as written so you, my lovely readers, would get as honest a review from me as possible.

So...here is my final product!

Clutch Closed

With 3 Diapers and Wipes in it.

Now, let me tell you, this pattern, from cut out to iron to sewing, took all of about 15 minutes. That's it. The pattern directions were fairly easy to follow - I'd recommend some basic sewing knowledge. This clutch is also the perfect size for me - my son is 18 months old, and in size 4 diapers, so I can comfortably fit 3 diapers and some wipes in there. Perfect for me to grab some, fill it up, and stuff it in my purse, forgoing the diaper bag! This clutch is a must have, in my opinion, for all Mom's and Mom's to be.

I recommend buying patterns from Kirsti - if you have trouble, she is there via email to help you. I felt her pattern was very well written, very professional looking, and was clear and concise.

WIPs Taunting me

So, I have two lovely quilts, and one lovely table runner...all basted and ready to quilt.

And here they sit, taunting me. Haven't had the time to get to them!!! Maybe today I'll be able to get some progress on these. I feel like they are abandoned. My poor abandoned projects :(

BOM and Beading Attempt

One of my local quilt stores has a "super sunday" block of the month. You buy your starter block for $5, and if you come back the next month on the first sunday, with your completed block, you get the next block free!! The border and binding kit cost me about 28....but that means I get a full size quilt (if I can keep up) for under 40 bucks! (I will eventually need backing...but that's 12 months from now!!)

So here is my first Super Sunday block. Look at the cute fabric. Will make a perfect gift for a little girl...

And I decided to attempt this bracelet - and followed the tutorial, sans cinching beads. I will be refining this...because cinching beads are apparently an important step. So noted. It was my first beading creation, so I'm pretty proud! And look - PINK!

New Fabric

This past week brought yummy goodies in the mail! The hubby and I both got fabric. (Have I mentioned he's a new quilter? He's more focused on art quilts, but I've been bribing him to help me finish Christmas gifts. Check him out here.)

I have yet to make anything with oilcloth, so I've been looking at some websites online with tips, techniques and patterns. Now that I have this yummy oilcloth, I have to decide what to do with it! I have a yard of it, so maybe I'll be able to squeeze a couple projects out of it!

WIP Wednesday

This is my first WIP Wednesday, but maybe when I see what I'm working on become a finish in blogland it will become more real.

This morning before sewing with pins in.

This is what I've been trying to finish up today. From that girls quilt along - I have these two beauties with the binding sewn on one side, and one of them has the back halfway hand sewn! I'll post new photos when they are finished. The flannel on the back is nice and warm and snuggly while I hand sew :)

10 Days Until Christmas

Really?? I should be RELAXING at this point - reveling in how amazing I am at planning and coordinating - looking at a tree filled with wrapped gifts.

In reality - I am finishing two projects today. And have one I haven't even started! (Can I pull my hair out now??) Add to that - I am waiting for a package and it might be late!! My husbands family is coming into town this weekend for Christmas. I have all the gifts done but one! I ordered Dec 4th, and it says it should come on Friday. I really have my fingers and toes crossed on this one. I'd hate to have one person out a gift because the post office has a vendetta against me!!

Edited - while I was at the computer whining away, my lovely postal lady delivered the package I needed! Time for a quick prayer of gratitude, and wrapping paper! :D

On a brighter note - I've joined a UFO group (look on the right side and click the pretty pretty button for more info), and I think I'm gonna steal a few minutes and make MYSELF a little mug rug. Just because I have the fabric, and it might help keep me sane :D

Yummy Donut Pincushions

I whipped these two cuties in about an hour total time. Adorable! Now, I need to get myself more felt, and more "sprinkles" (beads) and make some for everyone! I love em!!

These two went out to my brother, as part of his birthday gift. (Also, I just taught myself the blanket stitch. ) I might make myself a couple of these - cute to have around, and great practice for hand stitching! :D

Monkey Madness!

My Dad is a huge monkey fan...so for a quilt for him I've been looking (it felt like everywhere) for just the right fabric. And I had finally found it - funky monkey by moda. But...I didn't want to buy it online...I wanted to see all the delicious fabric in person! Lucky for me, one of my local quilt shops had it in stock!! I grabbed some, and decided to go understated sock monkey themed. I've had the fabric for a couple months, waiting for time, and the right pattern.

Today I cut it all up!! I'm so excited! Tomorrow I shall sew sew sew! :D
